Jackson co mn genealogy My name is randy wendel(Meet randy), Rootsweb volunteer coordinator and webmaster for Jackson County, MN since May 2007, and lifetime member of the Jackson Co Hist.Society.I volunteer my time on behalf of rootsweb to keep these pages updated. The Jackson County HistoricalSociety does not have a website but is fully aware of this one which I maintain for Rootsweb and the GenWeb project. My goal is to keep this website regularly updated with Jackson Co genealogy and Jackson Co HistoricalSociety information.I’m always interested in contributions to post on this website so please pass along any photos, person or family history/genealogy related items! Also note i live 150 miles from jackson county(Bloomington mn) and the distance keeps me from regular on site research activities or volunteer work at the historicalSociety/museum.Therefore, the least i can do in any volunteer capacity on a regular basis is maintain this web site. One of the more enjoyable duties of being involved with a genealogy website such as this is you learn much about families and people you are not necessarily familiar with, but share a common connection with because they lived where you or your relatives lived. When i look back on many families who walked the roads and fields of jackson county many years ago, i often wonder if my grandparents may have known them, perhaps may have even been friends of the family, etc.It is also not unusual for me to find myself researching families while i am uploading headstone photos for this website.I recently became curious about a particular individual who died as a very young man in the 1930’s who never reached the age of 20.A web search on this individual also lead to additional family history, only for me to learn about a lady who was related to this young man(Later in years)Who was born just a few years after i was, but died just a few years ago.I could not help but feel sad for her that she was taken from her husband and family so early.I also noted in her obituary she was preceeded in death by an infant daughter when she was only 29 years old.I then also realized my spare and valuable time spent trying to get photos uploaded to this website were, at least for several minutes, sidetracked by my mere curiousity about one individual, which lead me to other members of the same family, who had passed away.People i never knew, a family with surviving members of whom chances i will never meet.Occasionally, however,(Much as i just did a month ago)I will receive an email from a distant family member researching their family and surname. One of the reasons i was interested in working on this website was because i wanted to remember my own ancestors and honor their memory by giving back in a way that might help others remember their jackson county ancestors. It is the small moments, as i have just explained, that reminds me how worthwhile my few spare minutes now and then are, when i might be able to learn just a little bit about other individuals, families and ancestors, who may have been friends or neighbors with mine. I finally found time in early february to upload many headstone photos. It takes a lot of time and i believe there may have been approximately 125 of them. The time consumption mostly consists of the cut and paste process of the html text involved to make a web page work, and there is a lot of manual typing involved.I must type in all of the names, dates, and such(All of the text you see next to the photos, as well as that used in the html which uses the photo name and reference to the photo location on the page, etc). This alone is time consuming and i’m sure this person realized how much time alone this took.Probably cut my time in half.Yes, some day i may try and look into a more advanced(And less manually intense)Software program of which i can drag and drop photos, and have fancy little text boxes for my input ralph lauren sale uk to enter names and dates and so forth. For now, i’ll do it the way i’m used to.To give you some idea of what it takes to do this website manually, you only need to imagine performing a lot of highlighting with your mouse, pasting the text you copied into another file, then manually entering individual information for each item(Names, dates, etc). Then there is upload of all files into specific folders on the rootsweb server.Get the idea? I met a young lady 30 years ago when i was single(And 30 years younger! ).Actually, it was a handful of gals i had met who were going to the local college. In any case, about a year later i had a job change and suddenly found myself concentrating on moving out of state and these ladies were, believe it or not, the last thing i was thinking about during my”Evacuation. “Fast forward to around 2011, and i reconnected with one of them(Connie)On facebook. She was still living around the waseca county(Mn)Area where i had moved away from in the 1980’s, and from where my wife is from(Whom i had just met before i moved away). Why do i bring this up?I was watching the news in early march and heard about a 20 year old marine from waseca who was just killed in afghanistan.Within a few days, connie contacted me and said she thought it might be karla’s son.She later confirmed it was.Karla(Since married and divorced)Was still living in waseca, and aside from her son, she had a daughter.I guess my point is, life is too short. 30 years agoKarlawas an ambitious young and attractive lady pursuing a career in veterinarian work.30 years later, she had raised two children, only to suddenly lose her 20 year old son to a suicide bomber in a foreign country. She brought back a handful of memories from a younger time in our lives. I could only imagine http://www.victan.co.uk/ the young lady she was when I met and last saw her, now mourning the loss of her son who was about the same ageKarlawas when I knew her.Who, in their wildest dreams, could have ever imagined this could have happened. It’s certainly a different world today than it was 30 years ago.Yet, it is always on ongoing occurance of instability in other countries, so it never really does change in some ways.It certainly strikes close to home when you know someone who loses a child like her son did.I pray i never have to know anyone else again who loses a family member to such nonsense. If you are within a short drive of the jackson co historical society and museum, and have a little time you could spare, they could sure use your help! Why not consider dedicating 1 day out of the year(Or just a saturday morning? )To give back to your community and help preserve some history.Among any immediate items they need assistance with, there are many photos which need to be scanned so a digital file can be used to backup photos and documents and stored more safely.Imagine all paper based items that would be lost if a fire or tornado destroyed them.Scanning items to digital format for safe keeping is important.Paul and a member of the first territorial legislature. You will find jackson county in the southwest corner of minnesota(43.6750 N, 95.1567 W).The county seat is jackson. The historical society is located in lakefield.
